Primary’s u/13 cricket boys go for fourth gold

This year is the fourth time in a row that Nelspruit Primary's u/13 team will be contesting the super schools final.

Nelspruit Primary’s u/13 boys cricketers are off to Secunda where they will play in the final of the Mpumalanga Super Schools today.

They take on Laerskool Goedehoop.

It is the fourth year in a row that the team have made it to the final, and they have quite a track record in the competition.

They won in 2012 and 2013. Last year the final, which was also against Goedehoop, ended in a tie, so the players are hungry to bring the trophy back to Mbombela.

To reach the final, the team beat JJ van der Merwe in the semi- final last Wedensday.

JJ batted first and scored 86/10 in 23 overs. Primary scored 87/1 in 16 overs, winning the match by nine wickets.

Setjaba Mpatlanye took 5/16 in five overs and Khaya Fakude scored 34 not out.

“We will try our best to win it again in 2015,” says coach Albert van Putten.

“Primary has played in 69 games since 2011. Of these they won 64, tied two and lost only three.”

Two of Primary’s players have been included in the Puma A team and six in the B side.
