Uplands’ best awarded

Uplands College swimmer, Matthew Ives (17) achieved the required qualifying times for participation in the 2016 South African Youth National Swimming Championships in Durban earlier this year.

He represented Mpumalanga at the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee-sanctioned annual national swimming competition.

Earlier this year at the Interhigh Gala, he was named senior victor ludorum after claiming a well-deserved gold medal in the 100-metre butterfly in 01:02,16.

He recently received the Sportsman of the Year trophy at the Uplands annual honours evening.

Lauren Ogg won the Best All-round Sportswoman of the Year award, and the Sportswoman of the Year trophy.

The cornerstone of this particular award is ”excellence” in one or more of Uplands’ core sports. Winners’ commitment, dedication and appearance must have served as an example to their peers at all times.
