Riverview cross-country athletes break records
In the last major sports event on their school calendar, Riverview Prep School's Hornbills and Rollers recently competed in cross country races.
Riverview Prep athletes enjoyed an early-morning run through the cane fields on November 1. The school hosted its annual interhouse cross-country event that saw dozens of Hornbills and Rollers compete for house honours.
This was the school’s last big sports event before pupils hit the books for their year-end exams. They enjoyed this last chance to stretch their legs and have fun on the sports grounds.
The course comprised a 2km race for grade one to four pupils and a 3km for the grade five to seven classes, which traversed the school grounds and a neighbouring farm.
The Hornbills won the event and several athletes broke records.
Shelley Cloete broke the record for the 2km girls u/8 in a time of 10:35, Libby Ralfe the 2km u/9 girls with 09:56 and Sophia Clarke for 2km u/10 girls in 09:41.
Among the boys, Andrew Faria broke the record in the 2km u/7in a time of 10:07 and Nick de Zwart the 2km u/9 record in 08:15.
