Mediclinic Interhigh a grand triumph

The most anticipated event of the season, the 68th Mediclinic Interhigh athletics meeting, took place on Saturday. Hoërskool Barberton (BHS) was the host of this prestigious gathering and it was a great success.

Seven schools participated, including BHS, Lowveld High, Bergvlam, Penryn College, Lydenburg, Nelspruit
and Rob Ferreira.

As predicted, Banele Shabangu from BHS performed well. She was among those who were said to be kept an eye on during the competition.

She was first in the 100 metres (u/15) in 12,65 seconds, 200 metres in 26,27 seconds and in high jump with a distance of 1,45 metres.Some of the pupils who also performed well were Karilota Zulu, who took third place in the 400 metres (u/19) 01:06,21. She also took second place in the 200 metres.

Corlia van der Merwe took first place in Javelin (u/17) with a distance of 34,35 metres.
Bandile Mabuza took third place in the 200 metres  (u/15) and completed the race  in 25,36 seconds.
Mabuza took second place in the u/19 triple jump with a distance of 13,05 metres, although he is only 15.
He also took second place in the 100 metres in 11,42 seconds and 200 metres in 23,82 seconds.
