Share your memorable elephant encounter and stand a chance to win!

We ask all Lowvelders to share their strange, scary, funny encounters with an elephant.

By virtue of living in the heart and beauty of the Lowveld, every second person usually has an amazing story to tell about wildlife, or an encounter with some wild animal.

In the spirit of the recent elephant attack which took place in the Kruger National Park (KNP), we ask all Lowvelders to share their strange, scary,  or funny encounters with an elephant. (Read the article and view the video here.)

Here is one elephant encounter story:

“It was in 2003 when I had an unexpected encounter with an elephant. I was in the Lukikimbi Lodge area, near the Malelane Gate in the Kruger National Park. On this particular day, I remember turning into a dirt road, probably driving faster than I should have been, and around the bend I literally drove into this elephant! I don’t know who was more startled, him or me! To this day I remember the startled look in his eye. The impact shocked the elephant so much that he started flapping his ears wildly, and I remember his trunk and tusks hitting my bonnet. I swear there must have been a time lapse, because it was as though it took some time for the both of us to understand what had just happened. With my weak and wobbly knees, I mustererd enough courage to swiftly place the car on reverse. Well – I reversed right into the bush! Luckily, the elephant ran in the opposite direction.  The scratch marks and tusk scratches on my bonnet are still visible to this day.” – Anonymous.
