CMDA auditions for Battle of the Bands

The Casterbridge Music Development Academy (CMDA) is launching an exciting new event

The Casterbridge Music Development Academy (CMDA) is launching an exciting new event, the National Battle of the Bands. Existing bands or experienced individuals aged 12 to 18 are invited to enter the auditions which will take place on February 15. The auditions for individuals will be from 09:00 to 12:00 and bands from 13:00 to 18:00, all at the Performing Arts Centre at Casterbridge. Entrance is R20 per individual and R100 per band. Entrants will be required to perform two songs, an original and a cover. If they are selected to participate in the Battle of the Bands, a monthly admin fee of R350 will be charged to cover coaching, workshops, band development and so on.

The first Battle of the Bands will be held during July where an expected 30 youth bands from South Africa, Mozambique and Swaziland will perform. It will be a week-long event, with a series of all-day development workshops from the Tuesday to Friday hosted by industry specialists. This will be followed by performances by each band on the Friday night, Saturday morning and evening. Adjudication will be done by well-known personalities in the music industry. The winners will be announced the Sunday morning and will be invited to perform at the Route 40 Music Festival in December.
