South Africa’s unstoppable, elastic-faced funnyman, Barry Hilton, is back at Emnotweni Casino on March 28. This time he will performing his brand new one-man show, The Way I see It.
Based on locals’ response to his hilarious Barry Hilton B.E.E show in 2013, the casino anticipates another sell-out event. This will be Hilton’s first-ever performance at the exquisite Arena, which was officially opened in December last year.
It will also be his first show on local soil after a stint on an international cruise liner. In fact, he steps off the ship at Durban harbour on the same day as his one-night-only show in town.
“If his rubber-like facial expressions don’t have you rolling on the floor laughing, then his hysterical observations of everyday situations definitely will. Don’t miss this show, it’s bound to be hilariously funny,” says Ig Olivier, director of operations and complex general manager at Emnotweni Casino.
The Way I See It gives audiences a peek inside the goings-on in Hilton’s quirky head. He has a delightful knack for finding the ludicrous and humorous in daily situations, turning what seems perfectly normal on its head to make us laugh at life.
Hilton’s shows are unscripted, bursting with an electrifying mix-match of content. Lively retellings of recent observations and experiences together with the finest selection of older fan favourites and brand-new material will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. So eclectic is the content that you could watch three or four shows in a row as no one will be exactly the same.
“Travelling so extensively gives me heaps of new material and makes me focus on making my it accessible to as many people as possible,” says Hilton.
When performing in South Africa, his shows have a strong local flavour, but when working internationally, his content is universal and involves a lot of physical comedy that is easy to relate to.
Humble as ever, Hilton continues to draw capacity crowds to venues across Africa. He regularly features on Comedy Central Africa and has five signature DVDs to his name as well as two movies. Last year, he filmed a pilot episode for a new South African sitcom, did dozens of radio adverts, recorded a television advert, tackled a record number of corporate gigs, navigated a cross-country off-road championship, worked on five international cruise liners and celebrated his 30th year as a professional comedian. There is just no stopping this veteran comedian.
Tickets to the show at Emnotweni cost R100 per person and are available from the Customer Service Desk. The show starts at 19:30 but doors will open at 19:00.
