Youth Orchestra brings beautiful music to the Lowveld
Enjoy an evening of classical music by a group of young, talented musicians.
The Penryn College Chapel will be filled with beautiful classical music on Saturday, May 24. The Simfonia Juventi Youth Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Dr Fanie Jooste, will be performing at the school from 19:00.
This year the orchestra consists of 89 members, representing schools in various provinces. A few of the sixteen gr 12 pupils in the orchestra have been members for five years.
To be admitted to the orchestra, members have to meet certain criteria – great musical knowledge and ability as a high level of competency with the specific instrument.
Nelspruit is also represented in the orchestra by one of the violinists, Lusanti Brundyn of Höerskool Nelspruit and the saxophone soloist, Cameron Williams, who is the grandson of retired Nelspruit Methodist Minister Rev Don Williams.
The programme will include pieces such as Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Slavonic Dance No.3 by Dvo?ák, a violin solo from Symphonie Espagnole by Lalo, a saxophone solo Scaramouche by Milhaud, as well as music from The Chronicles of Narnia and La Bamba.
Tickets are available from Jackie at Penryn’s reception or at the door. Adults pay R100 and children under 18 and pensioners R50.
