Alive with the sound of Burlesque
The Performing Arts Centre at Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre in White River was packed to capacity for the high-energy performance of Welcome to Burlesque by Steyn Alive Productions.

“Show a little more, show a little less … add a little smoke, welcome to Burlesque,” said Cher, and the Mbombela folk heard her! Dressed for the occasion, members of the audience flaunted vintage dresses and fish net stockings, and pouted cherry red lips. The performance built up to a resounding crescendo and ended with everyone on their feet, dancing on the stage and tables.
The talented cast took the crowd on a musical journey into an era of glitter, glam and dazzling divas. They paid tribute to female singing icons such as Cher, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe and Christina Aquilera. Those who had watched the movie and knew the words sang along to their favourite songs.
Lizaan Vermeulen, one of the three singers, threw “Wielie-Walie” into the mix, giving it a distinctive Burlesque feel. Dancers, Mandy Fivaz and Andrea Haddon, added to the “wow factor” with spirited dancing and risqué outfits.
The sexy all-girl cast certainly knows how to put the “ooh” back into “ooh la la”. Joanne Steyn created this fun production and performed alongside her sister, Danielle Fisher. The two sisters have been in the spotlight since they were young girls, following in the footsteps of their famous father, Dannie Fisher. Joanne calls the Lowveld her home now and was thrilled to be able to bring Welcome to Burlesque to White River.
The show is based on the musical film, Burlesque, which starred Cher and Christina Aquilera. Both contributed to the soundtrack. The film was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in the Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) category.
The show was fantastic, the crowd was delighted and it was good to see the old barnyard packed to capacity once again. To book this show for your event, contact Joanne Steyn on 072-506-1520.
