That inspirational speech that made you feel like Rambo
We've all had an inspirational movie speech stuck inside your closet. Maybe it's still there. Which one motivates you?
“Filmmaking is a chance to live many lifetimes.”
– Robert Altman, American film director, screenwriter and producer.
Films offer us the opportunity to escape from reality for a while. They tell stories that make you forget about your own life and wrap you in the intricacies of an imaginary character’s drama, fun or horrors.
Some movies contain amazing motivational speeches that leave you feeling inspired and ready to change the world. Two favourites from Braveheart and Second Hand Lions come to mind:
“I am William Wallace. And I see a whole army of my countrymen, here in defiance of tyranny! You have come to fight as free men. And free man you are! What will you do without freedom? Will you fight?””Two thousand against ten?” – the veteran shouted. “No! We will run – and live!””Yes!” Wallace shouted back. “Fight and you may die. Run and you will live at least awhile. And dying in your bed many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here as young men and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take our freedom!” – Braveheart
“Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good; that honour, courage, and virtue mean everything; that power and money, money and power mean nothing; that good always triumphs over evil; and I want you to remember this, that love… true love never dies. You remember that, boy. You remember that. Doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. You see, a man should believe in those things, because those are the things worth believing in.” – Hub in Second Hand Lions
If you have a free hour or two this weekend, be sure to watch a film that will inspire you, even if you’ve seen it a hundred times.
And if you only fast forward to the speech, we won’t tell.
