Load shedding schedules explained online
Eskom reminds customers to check load shedding status after Saturday's cracked silo at Majuba power station has made load shedding unavoidable.
MBOMBELA – Last week’s media statement issued by Eskom warned that load shedding may become necessary.
After a silo cracked on Saturday afternoon at the Majuba power station, the power station’s capacity to produce electricity was reduced and all customers were advised to consult the load shedding schedules and the current load shedding position on Eskom’s load shedding website, television, radio and social media.
Load shedding is now being implemented and started at stage 1 of the Eskom rotational load shedding schedule. This schedule is extensively explained on
https://loadshedding.eskom.co.za/
There are three load shedding schedules that have been developed based on risk possibility.
Risk stage one allows for 1000 MW of the national load to be shed, 2000 MW can be shed nationally according to risk stage 2. Risk stage 3 allows for the shedding of up to 4000 MW of the national load. Load shedding is usually implemented between 05:00 and 21:00 and may render customers without electricity for 2,5 hours.
A media statement released by Eskom on Saturday urges customers to switch off pool pumps, turn air-conditioning to 23⁰C and to switch off geysers and unnecessary lights to limit the impact of the load shedding. Eskom customers can contact our customer call centre on 0860 037 566. Municipal customers need to contact their own municipalities for their schedules.
