High-flying action at the Lowveld Air Show
Besides the thousands of aeronautical enthusiasts who will enjoy the high-flying action at Nelspruit Airfield on Saturday May 23, an equally exciting cadet day is planned for Friday.
The aim of the cadet day to find the next previously disadvantaged individuals who want to train and hopefully become pilots in future.
“We request schools to send us learners from grades 10 to 12 with maths and science background, who are interested in acquiring a career in aviation, privately or with the South African Air Force (SAAF),” said the vice-chairman of the event, Victor Picoto.
On the day, the kids will get a full tour of the SAAF tent, with an explanation of the complete concept of a career in the air force and the possibility of sitting in a full-flight simulator. Three lucky individuals will be taken for a flip on an Alouette II, a military helicopter. More good news is that entrance will be free of charge that day.
Last year 1 000 cadets were introduced to the aviation industry on the Friday before the show.
On Saturday May 23, a great line-up of aircraft will make for a wonderful day for the whole family. Tickets cost R100 for adults and R50 for schoolchildren, while preschoolers get in free. Gates will open at 08:00. A variety of food stalls, hydration stations and a beer tent – twice the size of last year’s – will be available. General stalls with a variety of aviation products will also boast their wares.
Tickets are available at the Kruger Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism (KLCBT) at the Crossing Centre, Riverside Mall (kiosk next to Spur), Casterbridge (White River) and at the Lowveld Aero Club. Executive packages are available from the KLCBT.
This costs R400 per vehicle with five occupants, as well as exclusive parking closer to the action.
