The day recognises this convenient innovation, growing steadily stronger over the decades. America’s first drive-thru burger chain, Jack in the Box, created National Drive-Thru Day.

To celebrate it, you can go out with your friends and visit a drive-thru near you, purchasing any meal and beverage items you desire.

Take a photo doing so, and post it on social media using #nationaldrivethruday, to encourage others to celebrate the day with you.

The ease of dropping off or picking up an item without getting out of the car may be something we take for granted, although it does make things much easier.

For instance, time spent laboriously cooking a meal may now be used in enjoying delicious food in the company of your friends, and on a mini road trip, to boot!

Generations of tired employees found it so convenient after a hard day’s work to simply drive through a drive-thru on their way home, instead of sweating it out further in front of the stove.

According to National Day Calendar, the drive-thru reached its iconic zenith in the 1950s, but stayed strong throughout the 60s, 70s and beyond. People have been enjoying this service since the 1930s.
