WATCH: Spanish and English concert entertains Lowvelders

The event was hosted by the Lowveld Chamber Music Association.

MBOMBELA – The more you drink, the better we sing. Those were the words of Walter Fourie, beloved tenor at Saturday evening’s Spanglish concert.

Together with mezzo-soprano Aukse Trinkunas and Eugene Joubert on piano, guests were treated to brilliant music in both Spanish and English, and a lot of good wine.

“In the beginning we only wanted to sing in Spanish, but then we thought about how lovely it would be to add a little English as well,” Fourie said.

The first half of the concert was in Spanish and ended with Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s “Amigos Para Siempre”.

The second half of the concert was sung in English and started with the duo singing “All I Ask of You”, a beautiful duet from the musical Phantom of the Opera.

The pair ended the concert with Leonard Bernstein’s “Tonight”, but both were called back for an encore. For this, Fourie chose the Broadway hit “God Bless the Human Elbow” and Trinkunas sang the classic “Summertime”.
