Limpopo police clamp down on Christmas season crime

In the Mecklenburg policing area, the SAPS arrested two suspects, aged 31 and 34, for contravention of the Disaster Management Act. 

SEKHUKHUNE – Limpopo SAPS has arrested 2 015 suspects aged between 29 and 67 for various offenses, including contravention of the Disaster Management Act.

The men and women in blue also seized firearms, drugs and liquor during the heightened festive season operations conducted between December 28 and January 4.

The operations were conducted in all four districts of the province, and suspects were arrested for cases that included rape, possession of stolen vehicles, possession of and dealing in drugs and illicit cigarettes, selling fireworks without permits, murder and many more.

On January 3 at about 01:55, the police were patrolling along the R37 next to the Sefateng Chrome Mine when they came across a Toyota bakkie and stopped it. “The driver and his crew failed to produce permits to be on the road during curfew hours according to Covid-19 regulations.

They were immediately arrested.
“Meanwhile, in the Masemola policing area, four male suspects, aged between 42 and 67, were arrested for rape, domestic violence, malicious damage to property and assault,” said Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

Limpopo SAPS were hard at work during the festive.

The police seized the following in the process of these operations: 10 firearms,
37 knives, 3 704 cartons of illicit cigarettes, 201 grams of dagga, 181 dagga plants,
38 grams of crystal meth, 41 grams of nyaope, 774 cases of beer and four stolen vehicles.

All the arrested suspects will appear in the various magistrate’s courts soon. Police investigations continue.
