Four out of five suspects were tracked, followed and arrested two hours after they had allegedly attacked Sportscene at Ingwe Shopping Centre on Sunday.
A total of 98 cell phones, some bags of clothes and a small amount of cash were stolen after five armed men stormed the shop around noon.
Bossies Community Justice (BCJ) of Mbombela were summoned to track the robbers.
“There is a way to track stolen electronic devices,” said Albert Greyvenstein of BCJ, who was on the scene.

“We followed the suspected vehicle to the southern parts of Tekwane until it parked outside a house. After a while of surveillance, the suspects saw us and tried to make a run for it, but we were able to catch four of the five.”

Due to the nature of the security industry, the specifics of the tracking process cannot be published.
All of the 98 cell phones and the majority of the stolen clothing were recovered a mere two hours after the incident.

“The robbery happened just after 12:00 on Sunday and by 14:00 we had them cornered.”

Greyvenstein said the Nelspruit Flying Squad played a major role in the apprehension of the suspects.
The four suspects appeared in the KaNyamazane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, on charges of possession of stolen property and the illegal possession of firearms. After their initial appearance, they will appear in the Malelane Magistrate’s Court on charges of robbery.

“The robbery happened in Malalane, but the firearms and stolen property were found in Tekwane, so they will appear in KaNyamazane court for two charges of possession,” said Malelane SAPS spokesperson, Bheki Nkosi. “Thereafter, they will be taken to Malalane for the charge of robbery.”
At the time of going to press, the outcome was still unknown.
