Good Samaritans mobilise foundation kids with wheelchairs

During the handover, Marilyn Bassin, one of the donors, said the buggies were designed to provide full body and head support for users who cannot sit independently.

BURGERSFORT – The disabled kids of the Tshepo Foundation were on cloud nine when they were handed 11 buggy wheelchairs and blankets in Bothashoek on Sunday. Most of these kids were born with cerebral palsy.

The specialised wheelchairs were delivered by two non-profit organisations of Gauteng, namely the Paige Project and Boikanyo – the Dion Herson Foundation.

During the handover, Marilyn Bassin, one of the donors, said the buggies were designed to provide full body and head support for users who cannot sit independently. “Boikanyo – the Dion Herson Foundation is a non-profit organisation working with indigent children and their caregivers in impoverished township communities. We learned of challenges experienced by the people at the Tshepo Foundation and decided to assist. “We are nurturing vulnerable and atrisk youth, whether they are able-bodied or differently-abled. We view children holistically; we believe a child has a greater chance if issues are tackled from more than one angle.”

Dineo Thwala, the founder of Tshepo Foundation, thanked the good Samaritans for the donations.

“We have more than 10 disabled people who have different challenges and some are teenagers already. They have been carried around up until now, or have had to stay at home when their families go out. The buggies will assist our kids” said Thwala.

She pleaded with locals to assist with donations to erect a proper shelter.

“Currently, I take care of the disabled in my parents’ home. They come and visit on a weekly basis. “Recently the Burgersfort Mall handed us sanitisers. Any donation to the kids is vital, be it small or large.” Twala may be contacted on 072-077-1327.
