Local twist to famous cycle tour
Glencore Cycling Club decided to take matters into their own hands when it became clear a trip to Cape Town was not on the cards regarding the annual Cape Argus Cycle Tour.

Due to the pandemic, the event did not take place and cyclists used the Dullstroom Road to participate in the Virtual Cape Argus Cycle Tour 109 for 109 Charity Challenge on Sunday March 14. The Glencore Cycle Club is a non–profit organisation that was established in 2012 by a few dedicated individuals who are employed at Glencore. Membership is not restricted to Glencore employees only, but is open to any person who supports the cycling club’s vision. Its vision is to cycle for a purpose to make a difference. “Without the support of the public, we would not be able to reach our goals,” said Roy Murley, club chairperson. Hercules Coetzee of Glencore Cycling Club’s local chapter thanked the following people for their sponsorship and help: Mahindra Lydenburg, McGee & Co, Mototolo Mine, Phoenix Security, Johan and Sonet Booyens, PostNet Lydenburg, Terra Events, Electro Diesel Steelpoort and Rustenburg, Longtom SUPERSPAR and Pump & Abrasion.
