Murder suspect caught after help from community

Months of investigation have led to the arrest of a murder suspect. Pathology reports confirmed that Amos Sibiya (in his sixties) had been killed by a blow to the head.

He also sustained four broken ribs during an attack during the early hours of the morning on February 19. Sibiya was found next to the road in Matamong informal settlement.
Valuable information from the community led to the arrest of Amos Miya Mohlophehi. He appeared in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday April 16 and was not released on bail. The charges against him are murder and aggravated assault.

“We appreciate the sound relationship that we have with the community. Residents helped the police with the investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect. We know that there are community members who are afraid of coming forward but we promise to protect them,” said Capt Kaizer Moela, Lydenburg SAPS spokesperson. Phone WO Solly Mlangeni on 082-772-1693 if you have any info.
Mohlophehi will appear in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court again on Friday April 23.
