Woman in court for RDP housing fraud

The pair was accused of working together to sell RDP houses without the knowledge of the owners.

LYDENBURG – Annica van Staden (46) appeared in the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday May 12 for fraud.

She was remanded in custody until May 19 for a bail application. Van Staden also appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday May 11 with her co-accused, Fotoboy Makua, who was released on R7 000 bail.

A Hawks investigation linked Makua to Van Staden, a real estate agent who was sought and arrested
by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team at her hideout in Boksburg, Gauteng, on
Monday April 26. The pair was accused of working together to sell RDP houses without the knowledge of the owners.

The buyers allegedly paid money into Van Staden business trust account.

As soon as the money was received into her account, it would allegedly be transferred to her private account and to Makua’s as well, among others. More arrests have not been ruled out as investigations continue.

The case against the two was postponed to June 1 for further investigation.
