Get crafty this Christmas!
Keeping the kids busy during the holidays requires some effort, but if you do a little forward-planning, it’s easy as Christmas pie.
Children love making things and what better way to keep little hands occupied than letting your tot create little ornaments and items that double as great Christmas gifts for family and friends. Here are a few of our favourite Christmas crafts for kids…
Popcorn wreath
What you’ll need:
- A circular piece of polystyrene
- Pritt
- Popcorn
- Toothpicks
How to make it:
- Glue pieces of popcorn to the polystyrene with Pritt. You need to spread it on rather thickly for the popcorn to stick, so do small sections at a time.
- Snap your toothpicks in half and skewer the popcorn florets individually, by filling the gaps that you can see from above and from the side.
- Tie it with a beautiful ribbon and your popcorn wreath is complete.
Clay tree ornaments
What you’ll need:
- DAS clay (available from craft shops and CNA)
- Cookie cutters
- Ribbon
- Red, green and gold paint
How to make them:
- Roll out a small section of clay at a time.
- Using cookie cutters, cut your shapes – don’t forget to make a hole for the ribbon so you can hang them up.
- Leave them in the sun to dry for two hours.
- Get the kids to paint the ornaments.
- Hang them on the Christmas tree.
DIY Christmas decorations
The kids will love making these fun self-seeding Christmas decorations. Hang them in your Christmas tree as extra decorations. You can hang them outside for the birds when you take the Christmas tree down.
