Man arrested for murder and robbery

Immanuel Charles Maboko (33) of Burgersfort appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Thursday.

It is alleged that the suspect entered a BMW dealership in Nirvana in Polokwane last Monday. He pretended to buy a car and then suddenly pulled out a firearm, demanding the car keys to a BMW X6 from the sales manager. “During the altercation, a 56-year-old man, Muofhe Luvhimbi, an educator of the Vhembe district, who had brought his vehicle in for a service, was shot dead at the scene. The suspect took the car keys and drove off with the BMW X6. The police were immediately alerted. The suspect was arrested at Silicon, next to Peter Mokaba Stadium, after he had been found inside the stationary BMW. Two firearms were also found in the vehicle. One of the firearms is registered in his name and the other is still unknown,” said the spokesperson for NPA Limpopo, Mashudu Malabi Dzhangi.

The suspect fired several shots at the victim, killing him instantly, and fled the scene. “The deceased has been identified as Lucas Malatji (33) and was reportedly hired by the suspect for building work. The motive for the murder will be determined by the ongoing investigations,” said the Limpopo SAPS’ spokesperson, Brig Motlafelo Mojapelo. The acting police commissioner of the Limpopo SAPS, Maj Gen Jan Scheepers, has commended the members for well-coordinated investigative work that resulted in the suspect being positively linked with another case.
