Hippos visit Marlin’s Pub and Grill
We never know where the hippos are until they just arrive.

Marlin Pub and Grill in Mbombela has some very large, non-paying, semiaquatic visitors who have been frequenting the property lately, much to the delight, and wariness, of Marlin’s owners and regular patrons.
Marlin’s resident male hippo has recently been spotted at the well-known eatery and pub, having been seen fairly regularly for about the past year.
The owner, Chris Naudé, said, “There are actually two or three of them that come from the canal, usually when it’s quieter and there aren’t that many people about. We never know where they are until they just arrive.”
Naudé said the hippos have never been a problem and the current old male simply walks around the property’s fenceline to get back into the canal.
Visitors to Marlin’s are advised to keep their distance if they see the 1.5t giants in the area.
