Man sustains serious injuries in accident outside Lydenburg

The vehicle was damaged near a stop-and-go on the R37.

On Tuesday December 27 a driver of a Haval lost control on the R37 (between Burgersfort and Lydenburg).
The man sustained serious injuries in the accident and was transported to Lydenburg Hospital.
At a stop-and-go 5km outside Lydenburg, he had allegedly driven on the side of the road open for motorists, as indicated by road signs, in Burgersfort’s direction.
Emergengy workers on the scene said the stop-and-go signs are not clearly marked and the driver had to swerve out for oncoming traffic.
According to reports, the man had allegedly been under the impression the oncoming traffic had been waiting for their turn at a stop-and-go 2km farther.
A single lane is only open for motorists between the two stop-and-gos.
The vehicle rolled and landed on its roof in the veld near Skhila and the Eskom substation.
Thaba Chweu Emergency Services, towing companies and paramedics were on the scene. Emergency rescue and extrication services had to be implemented to rescue him.
The cause of the accident has not been confirmed. It is still under investigation by the Lydenburg Traffic Department and Lydenburg SAPS.
