Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine holds sport awards ceremony
The company held the awards in honour of the talented soccer and netball stars.
After an outstanding year on the sports fields, many soccer and netball stars were acknowledged for their achievements at the Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (DCM) Sport Awards ceremony at Lapeng Guest Lodge last Friday.
It was organised by the DCM’s social economic development (SED) team, who saw a need to honour these hardworking players.
The DCM’s management, motivational speakers, team managers and all the players attended the event. Gongs and certificates were bestowed on the player of the season, the best defenders, the best goalkeepers, the top scorers, dedicated players, most improved athletes, best supporters and many more besides.
The soccer team was also honoured for being runners-up in the Eastern Limb Soccer League, while the netball side obtained third position in the netball league. Encouraging the players, the motivational speaker, Vorster Maloka, quoted a Latin saying, “Mens sana in corpore sano.” This is translated as ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’. She said after each sports activity, our minds become relaxed and relieved. “You cannot have a healthy mind without a healthy body.”
Maloka encouraged the miners to participate in sports activities, because that unites people. “Sports is another activity that brings better relationships. People still travel all over the world to unite in sports.” He urged the miners to encourage their kids to participate in sporting activities.
Tlotlego Mokgoko, DCM’s SED superintendent, acknowledged both teams’ successes in the Eastern Limb League. He also appreciated other sports stars in athletics and other sporting codes at DCM. “As the SED team, we attended some of the games in both netball and soccer. I must say, we were impressed with the teams’ performances as they won convincingly against their counterparts. The two teams have the qualities and talent to clinch both leagues.”
In concluding the award ceremony, team members Brian Masegare and Ouma Mohlala pledged they would win the Eastern Limb League this season.
