Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine hands over multipurpose sports court to Ga-Phasha school

The DCM has partnered with the Boleng Trust and Africa United to gift a multipurpose sport facility to a secondary school in Ga-Phasha.

Access to sport in Tubatse received a major boost when the Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (DCM), in partnership with the Boleng Trust and Africa United, handed over a multipurpose sport facility to Mashupje Secondary School in Ga-Phasha on August 18.

In 2022, the school was victorious in the DCM Soccer Tournament, for which it was rewarded with the facility.

The mine officially handed the court to Mashupje’s delighted acting principal, Mmameetse Makgolane, and the Ngwaabe Circuit manager, Madikgake Masha.

The DCM’s Tlotlego Mokgoko said this would encourage participation in sport across the Sekhukhune area, so that all learners have the opportunity to participate in sport at all levels. “With the new multipurpose court, learners will be able to play soccer and other sports. This is in a bid to drive the development of sports and healthy activities in and around the surrounding communities. It is well documented that playing sport contributes to making a significant difference in the lifestyle and behaviour of children. This positive sporting influence will provide both hope and purpose to the children of this community,” Mokgoko said.

He said this was a deserved gift as the learners performed well during the tournament. “They are receiving this sports facility because of their hard work. You worked hard for this. Well done, Mashupje!”

Adding to Mokgoko’s sentiments was Boleng Trust’s Relo Matundu. She urged the pupils and school management team to take good care of the property.

“Our school is honoured and proud to be the recipient of the first-ever multipurpose sport court in this village, and we sincerely thank the stakeholders for their investment in the youth and people of this community.”

Masha also encouraged the school to cherish and protect the new sports facility. “Look after this pitch; this is an investment in sports. Both boys and girls can play soccer on this pitch.”
