Police are hunting for an armed suspect following an early-morning shootout in Emjindini yesterday (September 26) that left one man dead and three bystanders wounded.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo, officers responded to a local hospital yesterday at approximately 03:50, where medical staff confirmed one fatality and three victims receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.

Masondo said preliminary reports indicate the shooting began following a street confrontation between the deceased and a suspect, who both drew firearms and exchanged shots.

The victim died of his injuries shortly after, while three bystanders were caught in the crossfire.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and remains at large.
