March another months of sales gain for Chery and Haval

Both brand sold over 1 500 vehicles in March, considerably more than other fancied marques.


Two Chinese automakers have evolved into brands to be reckoned with, and now the two firms have reported similar sales results. Here is how Chery and Haval have been performing in their own sales race.

The performance in the South African market of these Chinese brands has outdone the sales figures of established brands like BMW, Honda, and Mercedes-Benz.

Sweet figures

The two brands have quickly bolstered their following and consumer base in South Africa which has come as a result of the expansion and refinement of each brand’s respective product range.

Reports indicate that Chery Auto South Africa sold 1 502 units in March 2023 in the South African market. At the forefront of Chery’s sales results is its Tiggo 4 Pro model, which has sold 918 units, with the rest of the range (the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro), which sold 395 and 189 units respectively.

The Chery brand has recently unveiled its subsidiary Omoda to break into a higher-end market segment. Alongside an expansion of Chery’s offerings, it has also bolstered its warehouse capacity in Johannesburg to accommodate for an improvement in turnaround them and parts storage. 

Expanding ground

As for Haval Motors South Africa, it has reportedly sold over 1 512 in the South African market and has exported 29 units.

Of the 1 512 units sold in March, 940 units were Jolion models sold in the local market while 17 units were earmarked for export.

Haval’s H6 model sold over 572 units in South Africa, with 12 units exported. Similarly to Chery’s warehouse expansion, GWM’s Haval brand is undertaking the task of improving and expanding its parts distribution centre in Gauteng.
