Activate Facebook Messenger’s dark mode with this trick

Don't strain your eyes, activate today.

Facebook has recently been making its Messenger app more user-friendly and has just started rolling out a “dark mode” for users who want to make it easier to read their messages under low-light conditions.

Messenger’s dark mode was made available to select users in certain countries late last year as part of the feature’s early testing phase. Now, it’s available to everyone who has the latest version of the app installed on their devices.

The trick is that in order to switch on dark mode you need to send someone (or yourself) a crescent moon emoji.

Doing so should trigger a shower of moons to appear in the chat window, and you’ll get a prompt to activate the mode in settings. Go to your profile page in the app, and it’ll present you with an option to turn the mode on.
