South Coast residents in KwaZulu-Natal, women in particular, are urged to be alert and cautious when they are alone at home, even during the day, South Coast Herald reports.
A woman, 35, who was visiting family in Ocean View Drive, Southport, was attacked, and at the time she had been alone with a child, 4, hanging up washing.
When she went back inside the house, she was attacked by a man who pushed her to the floor and punched her in the face.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said: “A second person came into the house and demanded cash. They tied her hands and forced newspaper in her mouth, threatening her with a knife.”
The men fled, taking cash. A house robbery case was opened at Southport police.

In a second incident, a woman, 79, was outside threatened by a man bearing a firearm at her home in Raven Road, Albersville. The man threatened to shoot her if she screamed and then fled with some fruit that he had taken from the kitchen.
Lieutenant Colonel Wiid said a robbery (with firearm) had been opened at Port Shepstone Police Station.
She said residents should be on the look out for unfamiliar people loitering around, especially when leaving their homes.
“Criminals are keeping record of the movements of residents in order to plan their attacks,” she cautioned.
