‘R100K five years ago not same amount today: Motsoaledi proposes changes to party funding act

Following the enactment of the Electoral Amendment Bill, the focus has turned to other existing laws which will be affected.

President Cyril Ramaphosa last month signed the bill into law, paving the way for independent candidates to contest provincial and national elections.

Hawks not investigating any politician over Eskom corruption

Law enforcement authorities have no idea which politicians were allegedly involved in corruption at Eskom as alleged by the power utility’s former CEO André de Ruyter.

Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) was briefed by the South African Police Service (Saps), the Hawks and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) on Tuesday on their response to De Ruyter’s allegations and his decision to institute a private investigation at Eskom.

Senzo Meyiwa trial: Case postponed until Wednesday

The murder trial of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa has been postponed because the court interpreter was unavailable on Tuesday morning.

The court heard that while the services of a backup interpreter were secured, the person is based in the Gauteng High Court sitting in Palm Ridge and could not travel to Pretoria for trial, some 83km away.

EFF, ANC lock horns over ‘missing’ Ekurhuleni waste trucks

Cracks are beginning to show in the ANC/EFF alliance in Ekurhuleni Metro over the latter’s allegations that compactors used to collect waste went missing, blaming city officials for “widespread” corruption.

The EFF has five MMCs in Ekurhuleni after a power-sharing deal with the ANC last month. African Independent Congress (AIC) councillor Sivuyile Ngodwana was elected mayor.

As the murder trial of Senzo Meyiwa drags on, the former girlfriend of the late soccer star, Kelly Khumalo, has given birth to a baby girl.

In December 2022, the singer and actress confirmed the rumours of her pregnancy. According to media reports, the father of baby No. 3 is former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder and Khumalo’s boyfriend of three years, Mthokozisi Yende.

Messi future undecided, says father after Saudi links

Lionel Messi’s father and agent Jorge insisted Tuesday the Paris Saint-Germain forward has not decided where he will play next season, after a source told AFP he would sign for a Saudi Arabian side.

The Argentina captain is out of contract with PSG in June and an anonymous source close to negotiations said it was “a done deal” that he would follow former Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi league.
