#MandelaDay: what South Africans are doing with their 67 minutes

By Thabang Buthelezi

This day was launched on his birthday, July 18, back in 2009 by the United Nations General Assembly. The day celebrates the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, who served this country for 67 years.

Politicians, celebrities and public figures around the country are all doing their bit to give back to the community.

Every year, former Miss South Africa and businesswoman Basetsana Kumalo spends Mandela Day giving back. This year she helped launch #TheRedScarfChallenge in support of the Thembekile Mandela Foundation.

The campaign helps girls in informal settlements and rural areas who miss school during their monthly cycles.

See below how other South Africans are spending their #67Minutes (refresh for updates).
