Mom and daughter, 13, found brutally murdered

The pair were found with multiple gunshot wounds.

KwaDabeka residents in Durban were left shocked and fearing for their lives after the bodies of a 40-year-old woman and her daughter, 13, were found in their home on Monday morning, Highway Mail reports.

The bodies were found with multiple gunshot wounds by the driver of the school minibus who transports the daughter to school.

Xolani Hlongwane, chairperson of the Bhasobha Tsotsi group, which fights against criminal activities in the area, said everyone was still puzzled by the murders.

“It is believed the incident happened on Sunday at midnight. Some of the residents said they heard a gunshot but were too scared to go and check.”

Hlongwane said the driver hooted for a while and then decided to go inside the house, as he found it strange that child did not come outside. He found the door broken.

When he went inside, he found the two bodies and alerted the neighbours who then called the police.

“The deceased woman stayed with her daughter most of the time as her husband is a truck driver and he is often away. He left on Sunday afternoon, and the incident happened at midnight,” said Hlongwane.

He said this is a second murder in that area in less than two weeks.

“The woman was well-known in the area a member of our group. She was an honest person who stood for what she believed in. We are very sad about this incident.”

KZN police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident, and said police were notified on Monday morning about a murder in KwaDabeka C Section.

“The mother and daughter were already dead when police arrived at the scene and the motive of the killing is unknown at this stage,” said Zwane.

A case of murder has been opened at KwaDabeka police, and no one has been arrested, and we are pleading with anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the murderers to contact Crime Stop on 10111.
