Nine KZN cops arrested by Ipid as court appearances begin

By Citizen Reporter

Nine police officers from KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), aged between 39 and 52, have been arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) on Tuesday morning.

They face charges for torture, attempted murder, murder, kidnapping and defeating the ends of justice. The group is expected to appear in the Durban Regional Court.

The nine arrested today are part of nine suspects identified last week by the police watchdog. According to Ipid, a tenth officer is also expected to be arrested later today.

A senior official, who is a station commander, and another officer were also expected to be nabbed this week on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Ipid released a statement on Monday saying it was anticipating the bust would take place at 8am, immediately after which the matters will be moved to the Durban Regional Court.

This is a developing story. More to follow.
