Insults fly at the Samas

By Kgosi Modisane

It was not all music and lights at the 23rd annual South African Music Awards (Samas) held at the Sun City Superbowl on Saturday evening.

Some SA entertainers appeared to have left their decorum, grace and team spirit back in Joburg as the night was characterized by drama, animosity and insult throwing.

Dressed to the nines, SA musicians and TV personalities in their designer garments kept fans on social media abuzz.

Fans and supporters of the queen of entertainment, Bonang Matheba, and king of all things “Whoo Shem” Somizi Mhlongo, have taken to Twitter to send a request for the pair to unite and rekindle their friendship.

The social media exchanges follow after a video was released showcasing the chemistry and admiration the two still share for one another.

In the video you can see Matheba out of her chair and joining in the celebration in the late Joe Mafela song Shebeleza, led by her former friend and SAMA23 host Mhlongo.

Matheba later found herself at the receiving end of some condescending conversation from American TV show actress Pearl Thusi, which referred to Matheba’s sudden resignation from her Metro FM radio show.

And if that wasn’t enough, Durban-born Gqom Queen Babes Wodumo was served humble pie when again she was not rewarded for her numerous nominations by the Sama organisation.

The devastated multiple platinum artist later took to Twitter to voice her thoughts about the judging process.
