Pretoria office of NPA chief prosecutor broken into

This comes just two weeks after computers were stolen from the office of the regional director of public prosecutions.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that an office of the chief public prosecutor in Pretoria was recently broken into.

EWN reported on Wednesday that according to two Gauteng police spokespersons, the break-in happened last Thursday and comes just two weeks after computers were stolen from the office of the regional director of public prosecutions.

The police spokespersons said they were apparently not aware of the incident. They could not confirm exactly what was stolen, but said the break-in occurred in an office where dockets were kept.

“Yes, I can confirm that there was a break-in on Thursday. A case of business robbery has been opened, and we’re investigating to check what actually happened. But so far no one has been arrested,” police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said.

According to a News24 report, the office belonged to advocate Matric Luphondo, based at Pretoria Magistrates’ Court.

NPA spokesperson Luvuyo Mfaku told the news website he could not comment until police had completed their investigation.

“The safety and security of our offices and personnel is paramount. On the basis of confidentiality, we are not comfortable sharing information relating to security measures that are in place,” he said.
