Morning fog patches are forecast for five provinces.

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Sunday, 18 May 2025.
The country can expect a mix of fog, sunshine, and shifting winds across the provinces.
Morning fog patches are forecast for Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and parts of the North West and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

Weather warnings, Saturday, 17 May
Fire danger warnings
The weather service has warned of extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Little Karoo and Laingsburg municipalities of the Western Cape and the Kamiesberg municipality of the Northern Cape.

An intense cold front is expected to affect the Western Cape and the Namakwa District in Northern Cape as well as Eastern Cape from Tuesday, 20 May to Wednesday, 21 May.
The public and small stock farmers are advised that very cold conditions over the interiors with snowfall on the mountains, heavy rainfall leading to localised flooding and strong to gale force winds, resulting in damage to infrustructure and uprooted trees and very rough seas can be expected.

Provincial weather forecast
Here’s what to expect in your province on Sunday, 18 May:
Gauteng:
Residents of Gauteng can expect morning fog patches in the morning, otherwise fine and cool but warm in the north.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “very high”.
Mpumalanga:
Mpumalanga residents will wake up to morning fog patches in the south-west, otherwise fine and cool but warm in the lowveld.
Limpopo:
Morning fog patches is also expected in the south-west of Limpopo as well as fine and cool weather.
The weather is anticipated to be warm in the lowveld.
North West:
Morning fog patches await North West residents in the east, otherwise conditions will be cool, becoming partly cloudy.
Free State:
Residents of the Free State will experience partly cloudy and cool to warm weather in the north east of the province.
Northern Cape:
The day will just be partly cloudy and warm. Additionally, the wind along the coast will be light to moderate north-westerly.
Western Cape:
Western Cape residents can expect morning fog along the south coast, clearing to partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions across the region.
Coastal winds will be moderate easterly to north-easterly along the south coast.
Elsewhere, winds will range from moderate to fresh north-westerly to westerly, spreading to the south coast by evening and becoming strong along the southwest coast later in the day.
The UVB sunburn index is expected to be moderate.
Eastern Cape (western half):
In the western half of the Eastern Cape, it will be partly cloudy and warm, becoming cloudy by late afternoon, with moderate to fresh north-easterly winds along the coast.
Eastern Cape (eastern half):
In the eastern half of the Eastern Cape, it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with moderate to fresh north-easterly winds along the coast.
KwaZulu-Natal:
KZN will experience morning fog over the extreme north-east, otherwise conditions will be fine and cool to warm, becoming partly cloudy in the west later.
Coastal winds will be moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly north of Richards Bay, while light westerly winds are expected elsewhere, becoming moderate to fresh north-easterly in the south from the afternoon.
The UVB sunburn index is expected to be very high.
