The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Thursday, 15 May 2025.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over parts of the Northern Cape and the Western Cape, otherwise cool weather conditions are forecast across the country. Here’s what you need to know.

Impact-based warnings

The weather service has warned of extremely high fire danger conditions over the extreme western parts of the Northern Cape as well as in places in the northern parts of Western Cape.

A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected over the Richtersveld Municipality of the Northern Cape until Friday, 16 May.

Provincial weather forecast

Here’s what to expect in your province on Thursday,15 May:

Gauteng:

Residents of Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and cool weather conditions.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga residents can expect cloudy weather with morning fog in places along the escarpment, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool, but warm in the Lowveld.

Limpopo:

The day will be cloudy with fog patches along the escarpment and drizzle in the north-east, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool, but warm in the Lowveld.

North West:

Fine and cool weather awaits North West residents.

Free State:

Residents of the Free State will experience fine and cool weather conditions.

Northern Cape:

The day will be fine and cool to warm, but it will be hot to very hot in places along the coast.

Western Cape:

Western Cape residents can expect morning fog along the south and south-west coast, otherwise it will be fine and cool to warm but hot in places over the West Coast.

Eastern Cape (western half):

There will be morning fog in places along the coast, otherwise it will be fine and warm.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

The day will be fine and cool to warm

KwaZulu-Natal:

Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog over the northern interior, otherwise it will be fine and cool to warm.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “very high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
