Weather outlook for the HSBC Cape Town Sevens

Isolated showers are also expected from the evening when the black south-easter will start to dominate.

The HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series returns in Cape Town from Friday to Sunday, as the teams battle for qualification for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has shared the weather outlook for the action-packed weekend in Cape Town.

According to the weather service, Friday will be dominated by a north to north-westerly wind contributing to a cooler maximum temperature (24°C) compared to Thursday.

“Even though partly cloudy conditions are expected, no precipitation is on the cards for the Mother City,” said the weather service.

From Saturday, the Cape doctor (fresh to strong south-easterly wind) will dominate with maximum wind speeds of 50 km/h, gusting 70 km/h expected during the afternoon.

It is going to be mostly cloudy with the morning temperature expected to be 18°C, but increasing to 25°C by midday.

Isolated showers are also expected from the evening when the black south-easter will start to dominate.

Mostly cloudy with isolated showers temperatures are expected towards the finals, with a minimum of 20°C and maximum of 27°C.

“Very isolated thundershowers are possible from the evening and, therefore, the public that will attend the event on Sunday is advised to keep a close eye on weather updates.”
