Steve Hofmeyr’s traffic flashmob video released

Hofmeyr caused a stir when he filmed on Sefako Makgatho Drive in peak traffic.

Afrikaans singer Steve Hofmeyr, 53, has released a video for his new song, Feeslied, on his Facebook page on Wednesday morning, Pretoria East Rekord reports.

Hofmeyr caused a stir on Tuesday morning when he participated in a flashmob for the video in Sefako Makgatho Drive in Sinoville.

He posted a video on his Facebook page, in which he informed his more than 400 000 fans of his plans to release a new single.

Shortly before the flashmob begins, he says in Afrikaans: “It is just after 07:00 this morning, and we are going to shoot the video of my new song ‘Feeslied’, and decided to do a flash mob. We are going to bring the whole of Zambesi to a standstill.”

Expecting to get into trouble with the law, Hofmeyr says: “We are in big trouble if you ask me.”

He then points his camera to the traffic, joking with motorists and saying: “Come on, get your cars out of the way we are hardworking people.”

At the end of the flashmob, metro police officers are seen ordering Hofmeyr to get down from the back of a truck he had performed in and cuffing him.

Hofmeyr said it was the first time he had tried to do a flashmob video.

“SA has a different reaction from the rest of the world. Traffic jams were, unfortunately, part of those reactions.

“Just like crime, no one dare get out of their cars.”

He said passers-by were the first to join in on the fun, and “everyone in traffic took out their cellphones to make videos”.

“The metro was agile and removed me promptly, but at the time ‘Feeslied’ had been sung,” Hofmeyr added.
