Child and Family Welfare Potchefstroom shifts focus after funding cuts
Child and Family Welfare Potchefstroom hopes to create safer, healthier communities where children can thrive.
Child and Family Welfare Potchefstroom has had to shift their focus after all government funding for the organisation was stopped in August. With only five staff members, they are in dire need of funding as well as volunteers.
Child and Family Welfare Potchefstroom has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding children’s rights and promoting their safety, wellbeing, and development within family communities.
Traditionally, the organisation’s work centred on statutory child protection, often as a last resort when children had to be placed in foster care or youth care facilities. However, the organisation has now shifted its focus towards prevention, education and empowerment, aiming to strengthen families and communities before statutory intervention becomes necessary.
Child and Family Welfare Potchefstroom still continues to offer services of child protection, mediation, parenting plans, counselling and care and contact services. However, they have now rolled out new programmes to benefit the community, which include parenting training groups, life skills groups, substance abuse support groups, and community awareness campaigns.
Through these expanded services, Child and Family Welfare Potchefstroom hopes to create safer, healthier communities where children can thrive.
If you would like to make use of their services, make a donation, or become a volunteer, you can contact them on 018 293 0425 or via email at supervisorpocthcw@gmail.com. You can also visit them at 91 Chris Hani Street in Potchefstroom.
