Since Monday, employees have been on an unprotected, illegal protest at the waste management section that collects household refuse since Monday.
According to Jeanette Tshite, the senior media relations officer, the employees had grievances about two of their supervisors. ‘The matter was resolved as employees had a meeting with the acting municipal manager, Cyril Henry, and his team.
As a solution to the problem, the two supervisors were then temporarily removed from the section and replaced by a caretaker,’ she said.
She added that the other reason for the unprotected strike was that employees wanted clarification with regard to the municipal overtime policy. ‘That too was addressed in the meeting, clarification was provided and the situation was normalised. The employees are currently back at work and all the household waste that has not been collected since Monday would be collected before the end of the week,’ she promised.
‘The JB Marks Local Municipality would like to take this opportunity to humbly apologise to all the residents for any inconvenience caused by non-collection of the household waste,’ she said.
