Municipality hosts lekgotla to take a hard look at service delivery
Issues relating to local economic development, public safety, technical services, human settlement and land use management, and various community services, were discussed over the two days.
Service delivery in J.B. Marks Local Municipality came under the spotlight when the municipality held a service delivery lekgotla at the Constand Viljoen Mess at the Potchefstroom Army Support Base last week.
On 4 and 5 May, numerous officials, councillors and members of the Mayoral Committee, led by the executive mayor, Gaba Thithiba Ka Qhele, gathered to discuss various burning issues.

The Speaker of Council, Rosie Moithoesi Dassie, spearheaded this service delivery lekgotla, primarily to chart a course for better service delivery to enhance the quality of life of communities in the municipality.
Issues relating to local economic development, public safety, technical services, human settlement and land use management, and various community services, were discussed over the two days.
Local media were also invited for an impromptu question-and-answer session with the executive mayor to gain more insight into the way forward for service delivery.
According to Ka Qhele, the municipality’s 23/24 draft IDP (Integrated Development Plan) and budget are key discussion points in improving service delivery. The period for public comment on the IDP was 5 April to 5 May 2023.
Ka Qhele also touched on the municipality not utilising the municipal infrastructure grant in the previous financial year and said it should never happen again.
He also emphasised that J.B. Marks had done everything it could to render services during water shortages caused by load shedding in the past financial season.
“After this lekgotla, we will give the public feedback on what we discussed and the key areas where we will put plans in place to ensure service delivery to communities.”
