Drill competition a big hit at SANDF Youth Celebration Week
The first-place trophy in the drill competition went to to the South African Military Health Service.
The SANDF (South African National Defence Force) hosted a Youth Celebration Week at the Army Support Base in Potchefstroom from 18 to 23 June. Various activities happened during the week, with a special closing parade capping proceedings off on Friday, 23 June. Different SANDF arms of service participated in a drill competition, one of the parade highlights. Spectators enjoyed every minute of this showcase, where organisation and teamwork took these drills to the next level.

The week comprised sporting events (race walking, running, volleyball, soccer and netball) between units and youth dialogue and community engagement, where they presented their fields of expertise to the public.
Showcases included Fire and Rescue, 4 Artillery Regiment workshops focusing on the role of gunners and various weapons and the daily workings of the 17 Maintenance Unit and 102 Field Workshop, among other exhibitions. According to the chief director of transformation management, Major General Zuziwe Maso, the event aimed to empower the youth by presenting exciting career opportunities within the Department of Defence, focusing on aviation and aerospace. The official theme of the week was “opening doors for future leaders.”
