Pavement finally upgraded after three years
The J.B. Marks municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, stated that the estimated time for completion should be by next week.
The condition of the road at the first stop in Extension 7 in Ikageng has been one of the main talking points in the community for the past three years.
According to one of the community leaders, Mandla Gaxele, this piece of road has been earmarked for a pavement upgrade, but the progress has consistently stalled due to appointed contractors not completing the job.
“Time and again, I see people getting jobs to upgrade the pavement, but after a while, they leave with no work being done. Tenders are given, but nothing happens. People leave, and then the money is gone,” added Gaxele.
For the past two weeks, however, there has been a major shift in progress, with a team from J.B. Marks Municipality taking on the job of upgrading the pavement on this road.
According to one of the workers, Orlando Zandamela, his team has been given an opportunity to prove themselves with this project.
“Progress has been going well, but when we finish upgrading the pavement just depends on the availability of materials,” said Zandamela on site as they were busy laying bricks.
Gaxele says the upgrade is long overdue, and he is excited to see the finished project.
The J.B. Marks municipal spokesperson, Jeanette Tshite, stated that the estimated time for completion should be by next week.
“The road near Ikageng Extension 7 had sustained substantial damage from rain and remained in that condition for quite some time.
The J.B. Marks Local Municipality’s paving team in the Tlokwe Region is now repairing and paving it.
“We believe the project that began with the brick paving of the road two weeks ago, will be completed at the very least next week,” added Tshite.
