Municipality powers up service delivery
The JB Marks Local Municipality’s Thuntsa Lerole Reloaded Program intensifies service delivery in Week 5.
The fifth week of the JB Marks Local Municipality’s Thuntsa Lerole Reloaded Program is underway, marking a continued commitment to accelerating service delivery in the area. This week, the focus is on Wards 09, 17, 20, 21, and 26, with various projects aimed at improving infrastructure and quality of life for residents.
The Thuntsa Lerole Reloaded Program has been a crucial initiative for JB Marks Local Municipality, with multiple activities already rolled out in previous weeks to address community needs. Councilor Gaba Thithiba Ka Qhele, the Executive Mayor of the municipality, led the charge alongside the Municipal Manager, Members of the Mayoral Committee, Ward Councilor’s, and temporary workers from the Expanded Public Works Program (EPWP).
Among the activities currently being carried out, Ward Councilor’s have identified the following priorities:
- Blading of roads
- Fixing of high mast and street lights
- De-bushing
- Road markings
- Pothole patching
- Cleaning of illegal dumping sites
- Canal and storm water catchment cleaning
- Engaging with informal settlement residents to discuss the role of paying for electricity
As part of the ongoing work, the Municipality’s Parks Section and EPWP teams have also been tasked with grass cutting and cleaning at the Potchefstroom Lakeside Resort. Pothole patching and road marking remain top priorities for the coming weeks, ensuring that infrastructure is improved across various communities.
In an update on the program, Jeanette Tshite, Acting Communications Manager for JB Marks Local Municipality, said, “The Thuntsa Lerole Reloaded Program is all about ensuring that residents of JB Marks see tangible improvements in their communities. This week, we are prioritizing areas that are often in need of urgent attention, like road maintenance and the clean-up of illegal dumping sites.”
Tshite added that the municipality is also engaging with informal settlement dwellers to discuss the importance of paying for electricity, which is a key issue in ensuring sustainable service delivery across the municipality.
The program is set to continue its momentum in the coming weeks, with plans already in place for further work in Ikageng and Potchefstroom Town.
The schedule for the remainder of the Thuntsa Lerole Reloaded Program is as follows:
- Week 5 (11–17 November 2024): Ikageng Extension Areas, Wards 09, 17, 20, 21, and 26
- Week 6 (18–24 November 2024): Ikageng Extensions
- Week 7 (25 November–1 December 2024): Ikageng
- Week 8 (2–8 December 2024): Ikageng
- Week 9 (9–13 December 2024): Potchefstroom Town
The municipality is optimistic that this accelerated approach to service delivery will have a significant impact on the lives of residents in these areas.
