The North West Eagles may not, at first, ring any bells to the casual sports lover in Potchefstroom and the greater North West Province, but this is about to change.

Basketball is becoming a bigger sport each year with the Basketball National League (BNL) now in its third season. The Eagles represent the North West in this league which gives a platform to upcoming young players to showcase their talent.

The Eagles are made up of 15 players from the North West Province (Klerksdorp, Potchefstroom and Vryburg).

Under the coach, Augustine Batapay Malu, the team has already racked up three wins this season, placing them in seventh position on the BNL log. Malakia Loate, Thabang Glass, and Rodney Genga have won MVP (Most Valuable Player) in three of the games.

“We wish to appeal to the North West Province to come out and support the team. We believe that they can go all the way!” expressed Edwinah Viljoen, the Eagles’ media liaison.
