The Lions have endured a quite bumpy ride in the Ram Slam T20 Challenge this season with rain, run outs and some questionable decisions handing them two losses and one win in their campaign, thus far.
Their most recent match was played at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on 6 November against the Unlimited Titans in a low-scoring affair, which the Lions lost by 4 wickets.
The Lions batted first and got off to a poor start as Devon Conway, Alviro Petersen and André Malan were all dismissed for single figures.
Rassie van der Dussen did his best to remedy the damage with a well constructed 27 (31) before he fell LBW to the impressive Tabraiz Shamsi.
If it had not been for Thami Tsolekile’s fighting 58 (51), then the Lions would have had no chance in the match. Tsolekile’s half century propelled the Lions to 115 all-out .
The Titans had the likes of Proteas’ Quinton de Kock, Farhaan Behardien, Albie Morkel and Chris Morris at their disposal and their experience helped guide the Titans to a tricky, but deserving win, in the end.
The Lions’ best bowler, without a doubt, was Aaron Phangiso, who took 3/19 in his four overs.
De Kock top-scored with 36 as no other batsman could score past 20 runs. Every batsman chipped in with a few runs before losing their wickets.
The Lions might have had a better chance if they had scored 40 more runs but, in the end, Morris and the ever-dependable Graeme van Buuren steered the Titans home.
The Lions are up against the Warriors in their next T20 match in Port Elizabeth at St. Georges Park on Friday, 13 November.
*The Lions will play the VKB Knights in a Ram Slam T20 match on Wednesday 25 November at Senwes Park.
