Nigeria’s u.19 cricket team are the winners of the ICC u.19 Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifiers Division 2 after a persuasive 137-run win against Sierra Leone in the final at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.

The stars for Nigeria were their opening batsmen, Olayinka Olaleye (110 off 124) and Samuel Mba (62 off 124), who put on an outstanding 148-run partnership.  Nigeria posted a score of 242/9, which turned out to be too much for Sierra Leone, who could only post 105 all out.

The bowler of the tournament, Peter Aho, was once again Nigeria’s main weapon as he took 5/35 to lead Nigeria to victory.

North West Cricket president, Dr. Oupa Nkagisang, praised the young African cricketers who shone in Potchefstroom during the tournament.

‘We at North West Cricket were proud to host such a successful tournament where everything ran smoothly. I want to give my gratitude our CEO, Vincent Prior, and the rest of the staff for doing a fantastic job. Even though cricket might not be your first sport, you have taken a good cricket culture back home. When people look at you and tell you that you can’t do it, then you do it anyway,’ he added.
