1. Financial woes at North West Cricket must be remedied
It has been a tough few months for North West Cricket.
There have been retrenchments and various financial potholes, coupled with the resignation of the former CEO, Vincent Prior. Other top positions within North West Cricket are also vacant.
At the time of going to print, the union had not yet held its AGM amid all the reshuffling.
The Herald recently spoke to the new CEO, H.P. Prinsloo, and there was a sense of optimism at his appointment, based on his financial and cricketing background.
North West Cricket should be competing with the top unions and has always been a hotbed for talent generation for top, first-class cricket in the country.
As Prinsloo stated himself, the union must look at community involvement to create a positive image of NWC and Senwes Park.
Transparency will be one of the key factors for North West Cricket to regain its former glory.
Like a Phoenix, it can rise once again and, for a city as passionate about cricket, it definitely needs to. Lessons need to be learnt.
2. Astronomically good for hockey
The current reconstruction of the astroturf pitch at the NWU Hockey Club will benefit not only the hockey club but hockey in Potchefstroom, in general.
Hockey has been on the up for the past few years and this upgrade will surely be one of the best investments NWU Sports has made.
It will be quite something to see international teams playing matches in Potchefstroom and this will be one of the highlights in moulding the hockey club into one of the top clubs in the country.
3. Scorching athletics action in Potch
With temperatures set to reach 32 degrees, it is sure to be just as blazing on the athletics track this coming Saturday when the 2018 Interprovincial Sub-Youth Track and Field Championships take place at the Kenneth McArthur Stadium.
Be sure to make your way to the stadium for some fantastic action that will see both primary and secondary school athletes (up to Gr. 9) from all around the country compete for top honours.
